Courtney Villads Andersen, Artist |
"Natural artifacts and discarded materials caught my eye and my imagination. These were a new set of textures with which to work. I was intrigued with old rusty roofing metal and weathered boards. Shovel parts, saw blades, and other discarded materials, beautiful in their own right, began to figure in my art. The thinness of the metal permitted beautiful structures to be created with only my hands and a pair of tin snips, a saw and a hammer. The textures were wonderful. Later, colour would become more important for me and I would apply paint to the wood and rusty steel.
Humour reveals itself everywhere in my art, sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly. It is an important characteristic, and these materials appeared very appropriate for this. The off-cuts would provide an unexpected and oft times humorous design attribute. I enjoy uplifting the work with titles which bring a smile to the beholder.
I want my viewer to be as excited about my work as I am. He or she is invited to peruse these pages, and especially to view the galleries." |
